Mazikeen was born into the Vescovo family -- the only daughter of one of the Don’s favored caporegimes. She showed an aptitude for the family business early on and to become an asset to the family’s legacy, she showed great respect to her mind and body – studying both to become a fierce physical opponent and a worthy tactician. Her loyalty to the family was absolute, but it was tested when it was revealed that her father had betrayed the Don by working in league with the AntiMafia Commission.
In an act of retribution, the Don sent out a squad to torture Mazikeen’s father and murder her family. During their attack, Mazikeen’s face was forced into a large puddle of gasoline which was then set alight; the result was the horrible disfigurement and scarring on one side of her face which she still carries to this day. Despite her injuries, however, Mazikeen was able to fight off and ultimately kill her attackers, using only her bare hands and a kitchen knife. When she confronted her father about the attack, he told her the nature of his deceptions and in an act of loyalty to the Vescovo name, Mazikeen murdered her own father for betraying the Don.
Disfigured and shunned for her father’s trespasses, Mazikeen scrambled to find a way to re-enter the family’s good graces. In complete humility, she offered her services to Kristoph Gavin, a young up and coming star in the Vescovo family. She recognized that Gavin, who had a strong mind but a weak body, was in need of somebody who could offer him protection and support during his difficult and bloody climb to the upper echelons of the Vescovo hierarchy. Gavin, intrigued by her humility, her frankness, her beauty and her mask, accepted her offer, taking Mazikeen on as a bodyguard and personal assistant.
Throughout the years that followed, Gavin and Mazikeen have had a topsy-turvy dynamic. Business associates, sometime-lovers, eventually friends (well, as close to “friend” as Gavin can conceive). They share a mutual respect and fondness for one another, and in private interact as equals; however, both Mazikeen and Gavin understand the politics of the family business and, in official settings, they both maintain a strict dynamic of superior/underling. It is not a secret, however, to Vescovos in the know (Gavin included), that Mazikeen has grown to love Gavin, an emotion that drives her to fulfill her duties with even more fervor, despite the fact that it is unrequited. Mazikeen loves quietly, fiercely and wholeheartedly, and is now willing to follow Gavin wherever his ambitions take him – even if that means disobeying the Don, the family, and the Vescovo name.
Powers
Mazikeen was born naturally strong, swift, and extremely resilient to physical damage. Somewhere along the lines, to better serve Gavin, she had all of these aspects of herself genetically enhanced. Beyond that, she has no powers or special equipment. To arm herself, she carries several concealed knives and daggers, as well as a very large broadsword which she only wears strapped to her back to more “official” functions. The hilts of all of her weapons are embossed with the standard of her old family crest -- a blazing sun -- earning her the nickname "The Morningstar".
